President Kaczynski was not only an active member of the Solidarność but a consistent follower of Pope John Paul II, too.
LETTER OF CONDOLENCE OF THE SEIMAS COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS FOR THE DEATH OF LECH KACZYNSKI, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND, AND OTHER PROMINENT POLISH CITIZENS
Vilnius
10 April 2010
Poland and the whole world have been shocked today by the sad news about the horrific tragedy where President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria, and a number of prominent Polish citizens were killed. Poland was with us in all our fights for our country‘s freedom and independence. President Lech Kaczynski was our brother, friend, member of the Solidarność (Solidarity), an example of behaviour, endeavour, and personality we all wanted to follow.
The death of President Kaczynski, his wife Maria, of Mariusz Handzil, Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the President, Poland’s political leaders, chiefs of defence, and other intellectuals on their way to attend the commemoration of the 1940 massacre of the Polish military élite is the gravest loss in Central Europe during its twenty years of independence.
We are with the Polish nation and the whole world in their mourning for the unthinkable loss.
On behalf of the Committee on Foreign Affairs
Chairman Emanuelis Zingeris
