Lithuania remains fully committed to the international community’s objectives in Afghanistan

Thursday, April 3, Bucharest – In its working session today the North Atlantic Council adopted a comprehensive political-military approach towards Afghanistan focused on development assistance and local governance.

According to President Adamkus, a long-term vision regarding Afghanistan remains our top priority. Lithuania remains fully committed to the international community’s objectives in Afghanistan. Lithuania is in the lead of a PRT in the province of Ghowr, which channels multinational development assistance and supports local governance, and is also present with a special operations force squadron in the South.
President Adamkus urged not to forget those provinces that are now relatively stable and therefore lack due attention from the international donor community and the Government of Afghanistan. The President also called on the international community and the Afghan government to give more attention and support to the reconstruction projects in Ghowr and other remote provinces of Afghanistan.
