PERSPECTIVES OF LITHUANIA’S eDIPLOMACY WERE DISCUSSED AT THE LITHUANIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
On 26 March, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Centre for Strategic Studies discussed Lithuania’s electronic diplomacy (eDiplomacy) perspectives.

eDiplomacy is the new sphere, which is related to the management of international relations and diplomacy in the era of globalization. During the discussion, Professor at Mykolas Romeris University Arūnas Augustinaitis indicated that eDiplomacy was the new model of international relations, the essential features of which were: bigger attention dedicated to information and communication technologies, establishment of cooperation platforms, strengthening of information maintenance and communicational interactions, collective diplomatic activity and decision-making at the global level. According to Professor A.Augustinaitis, the goal of eDiplomacy is to advocate and develop the institutional know-how, as the factor of success and competitiveness in the area of promoting national security. Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas indicated that the realisation of eDiplomacy was an ambitious goal. However, we have to comport ourselves towards novelties in this modern global world. During the meeting, the creation of a legal basis for the e.Diplomacy, need of financial and human resources and the practice of other countries were discussed. |
