President Adamkus Congratulates Georgia on Democratic Elections

Sunday, January 6, Vilnius – On Sunday, President Valdas Adamkus spoke to Georgia’s acting head of state Nino Burjanadze by phone.
President Adamkus congratulated Nino Burjanadze on holding democratic elections described by Lithuanian and international oberservers as conforming to OSCE requirements.
“Once again, Georgia has proved that it has strong democratic ideals,” said Mr. Adamkus, adding: “It is now important to wait until the final election results are released and restrain from any steps leading to political confrontation.”
President Adamkus alco congratulated the people of Georgia on their determination to seek membership in NATO and reiterated Lithuania’s support to Georgia on this path.
