President and Foreign Minister discussed EU matters

Wednesday, May 7, Vilnius – The President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus received Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekunas. Issues discussed included European Union matters, energy security and the sending of troops to Iraq.

The Minister briefed the President on the meeting of the General Affairs ad External Relations Council in which Lithuania presented its position and interests regarding the mandate for EU negotiations with Russia.

The President positively evaluated Lithuania’s diplomatic participation in the Council meeting and expressed hope that other Member States and their public would understand Lithuania’s legitimate and right aspirations and take them into account.
