The 90th anniversary of S.Dariaus and S.Girėno transatlantic flight were marked by the presidents of Poland and Lithuania
On July 16, in the Pszczelnik forest near Myśliborz, the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the death of Lithuanian pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas took place, attended by the President of the Republic of Lithuania H. E. Mr. Gitanas Nausėda and the President of the Republic of Poland H. E. Mr. Andrzej Duda.
The Liturgy of the Word was celebrated by the Archbishop of Szczecin-Kamień H. E. Andrzej Dzięga and the Archbishop of Lithuanian emigration H. E. Lionginas Virbalas. The President of the Republic of Lithuania awarded Mr. Piotr Sobolewski, the mayor of Mislibuž, with the Order of Merit of Lithuania for many years of strengthening cooperation between Lithuania and Poland and nurturing historical memory. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Szczecin, Mr. Wiesław Wierzchoć, and Archbishop Dzięga presented the presidents with commemorative albums on the occasion of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the death of pilots in 2008, attended by the former President of the Republic of Lithuania H. E. Mr. Valdas Adamkus and the late President of the Republic of Poland H. E. E. Mr. Lech Kaczyński. The President of the Republic of Lithuania laid a wreath at the plaque commemorating the pilots S. Darius and S. Girėnais in the Szczecin Cathedral of St. Jacob. In Szczecin, President Gitanas Nausėda visited the headquarters of the NATO North-Eastern Corps, where he was greeted by the corps commander, General Jürgen Joachim von Sandrart, the headquarters staff and Lithuanian officers serving in the corps headquarters.
