On the 8th of October Defence Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Poland Col. Vilmas Šatas and Second Secretary of Lithuanian Embassy Eduard Mažul at the Kobylka town cemetery paid tribute to the soldiers and rebels of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) who died in 1794 in the Battle of Kobylka.
The celebrations were attended by the leaders of the town, representatives of youth and public organizations and the church, the residents of the town and the Honorary Company of the Lithuanian Army. Before the ceremony at the cemetery, St. Mass was held and battle reconstruction, in which history reenactors from Poland and Lithuania participated, took place.
The Battle of Kobylka, which took place on the 26th of October 1794 between the units of the army of the GDL and the Polish rebels and the Russian army, was the penultimate battle of the GDL army. About 450 soldiers were killed and about 850 were taken prisoner during the battle. The battle, according to historians, ended in the territory of the present settlement Zielonka, where there is a monumental stone. After the defeated battle, GDL units withdrew to Warsaw, where they took part in its defence.
